BACKGROUND
The Public Works Department’s Fleet Division is responsible for purchasing, maintaining, and replacing of all City-owned equipment. When equipment is purchased, the equipment is assigned a unit number and placed on a maintenance and eventual replacement schedule. The approved Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget includes funds for the purchase of one (1) sewer main inspection camera with a lateral launcher (assigned to the Public Works Department). This camera will be an addition to the City’s fleet.
• Unit No. 6270E Sewer Main Inspection Camera with a lateral launcher
ISSUES/ANALYSIS
Finance and Public Works staff collaborated to compile specifications and prepare a bid package for one (1) sewer main inspection camera with a lateral launcher for the Public Works Department Wastewater and Storm Drain Operation Division. The selected sewer main inspection camera with lateral launcher equipment was chosen as the best replacement for our current sewer inspection camera due to the lateral launching capabilities, and availability of parts from local vendors. On November 1, 2022, the Council approved ordinance No. 2022-017 amending the City Municipal Code Section 13.12.150 - the sewer lateral located within the public right-of-way or within a public easement shall be the responsibility of the City. The lateral launcher will be valuable in inspecting the sewer service laterals directly from the sewer main.
On November 16, 2023, the bid notice was published on the City’s Planet Bids website. On November 30, 2023, the City received the following bid results:
