RECOMMENDATION

Adopt Resolution No. 2026-035 calling for the General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, for the election of certain officers and requesting the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to consolidate the City of Chino General Municipal Election with the Statewide General Election; and adopt Resolution No. 2026-036, establishing the candidate statement regulations.

BACKGROUND

The City of Chino General Municipal Election shall be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 for the purpose of electing a Council Member from District 2 and a Council Member from District 3.

The nomination period for this election begins on July 13, 2026 and ends on August 7, 2026. Pursuant to California Elections Code Section 10225, the nomination period for an electoral district may be extended to August 12, 2026, if the eligible incumbent does not file nomination papers by the deadline.

ISSUES/ANALYSIS

As provided in the California Elections Code, the legislative body shall approve resolutions to call for and consolidate the Municipal Election with the Statewide Election.

Resolution No. 2026-035 calls and gives notice of the November 3, 2026 General Municipal Election. The election is called for the purpose of electing a District 2 Council Member for a full term of four years, and a District 3 Council Member for a full term of four years. Additionally, the resolution requests the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to consolidate the General Municipal Election with the Statewide General Election.

Resolution No. 2026-036 includes general provisions for preparing said candidates’ statements pursuant to Section 13307 of the Elections Code.

Additionally, attached to this report is the preliminary calendar of election events for the November 3, 2026 General Municipal Election.
