BACKGROUND
The City of Chino is fortunate to have multiple non-profits and community groups dedicated to serving the public and preserving Chino’s unique history. To assist in their ongoing efforts, the City Council from time to time, authorizes expenditures from the City’s community support fund. These expenditures serve a valid public purpose by helping to continue the outstanding services that these organizations provide to our community.
ISSUES/ANALYSIS
To continue this tradition, Council Member Marc Lucio recommends that the City Council approve the following contributions:
• Boy Scouts of America Troop 201 - $500: Supports a local boy scout troop which supports local volunteer efforts while developing character, discipline integrity, and leadership skills.
• Chino American Little League - $500: Helps teach Chino’s youth the importance of teamwork, leadership, hard work, and humility through an organized baseball league.
• Chino AYSO (Region 67) - $500: Provides Chino youth a fun, family-friendly environment where kids can grow and develop not only their soccer skills but their leadership and social skills.
• Chino Girls Fastpitch Softball - $500: Provides an opportunity for growth and development of softball and life skills to the highest level achievable through competitive softball.
• Chino High School Sports Booster Club (Chino High School Wrestling Program) - $1,000: Teaches self-discipline, develops self-esteem, builds character, and creates a sense of pride for Chino High School through its organized wrestling team.
• Chino Hills PONY Baseball - $500: PONY Baseball and Softball is designed to "Protect Our Nation's Youth" by providing experiences in youth baseball and softball that will help young people grow into healthier and happier adults. League boundaries include San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, including bordering LA County cities (Diamond Bar and Pomona), with eligibility for All Stars for only for residents in Chino Hills, Chino, Ontario, Pomona, Diamond Bar, and Eastvale.
• Chino National Little League - $500: Provides a safe opportunity for Chino Youth to learn the game of baseball in a fun, safe, and engaging environment while teaching the value of teamwork, the importance of sportsmanship, and leadership.
By approving these contributions, these groups will be better equipped to provide services to our community. Therefore, as proposed by Council Member Marc Lucio, staff recommends that the City Council approve the community support contributions to: Boy Scouts of America Troop 201, Chino American Little League, Chino AYSO Region 67, Chino Girls Fastpitch Softball, Chino High School Wrestling Program, Chino Hills PONY Baseball, and Chino National Little League.
