BACKGROUND
The City of Chino is fortunate to have multiple non-profits and community groups dedicated to serving the public and preserving Chino’s unique history. To assist in their ongoing efforts, the City Council from time to time authorizes expenditures from the City’s community support fund. These expenditures serve a valid public purpose by helping to continue the outstanding services that these organizations provide to our community.
ISSUES/ANALYSIS
To continue this tradition, Council Member Comstock recommends that the City Council approve the following contributions:
• Soroptimist International of the Chino Valley, Inc. (Bingo Fundraiser) - $100: Seeks to empower women and girls by providing a number of educational opportunities, programs, and resources.
• St. Margaret Mary School (Car Show) - $250: Offers excellence in academics with a family-valued environment, providing positive contributions to organizations in and around Chino.
• Chino Youth Museum - $250: Provides a space for interactive learning to foster a better understanding of tomorrow through appreciation of yesterday and today.
• No More Locked Doors (Toy Drive) - $250: Helps troubled youth and formerly incarcerated with mentorship, vocational training, transitional housing and career placement within the various building trades.
By approving these contributions, Soroptimist International of Chino Valley, Inc. (Bingo), St. Margaret Mary School (Car Show), Chino Youth Museum (Bingo), and No More Locked Doors (Toy Drive) will be better equipped to provide services to the Chino community. Therefore, as proposed by Council Member Comstock, staff recommends that the City Council approve these community support contributions.
