BACKGROUND
The City of Chino’s Public Works Department Water Division oversees the maintenance and operation of the City’s various water assets and distribution systems. Provision of these maintenance and operation services is critical, ensuring reliable potable water distribution to approximately 80,000 residents. The City produces approximately half of its total potable water supply by operating City-owned groundwater wells. Currently, the City owns and maintains twelve (12) groundwater wells and fourteen (14) booster pumps, which require routine maintenance and, occasional emergency repairs. Groundwater production is supplemented with purchased imported water to supply both potable and recycled water services for residential, agricultural, retail, and industrial customers.
City staff, with the assistance of qualified contractors and consultants, accomplish the necessary maintenance and operations annually. One of the essential services provided with assistance includes on-call well and pump repair services, which is utilized for as-needed services for City-owned groundwater wells and booster pumps. Minor repairs that do not require specialized equipment are performed by city staff; however, more extensive repairs that require specialized equipment and expertise often necessitate contracted services. These specialized services may include the removal and re-installation of a well pump, booster pump removal and re-installation, well casing cleaning and rehabilitation, and well video survey.
