BACKGROUND
The Chino Planning Commission is a nine-member board that respectively oversee and advise the City Council on specific quality of life issues. In particular, the Planning Commission reviews land uses, approves development projects, and offers guidance on all planning-related issues.
ISSUES/ANALYSIS
In September 2025, Commissioner Steve Lewis passed away, creating a vacancy on the Planning Commission. Commissioner Lewis was appointed to the Commission in 2015 and was serving in the second year of his current four-year term when he passed away. The unscheduled vacancy was posted on October 6, 2025, in accordance with the Maddy Act (Government Code Section 54974).
Pursuant to Chino Municipal Code Chapter 2.36, the vacancy on the Planning Commission requires the position be filled. To conduct the appointment process effectively and fairly, the following procedures and tentative schedule is underway:
* October 24 - November 14, 2025: Accept applications for the Planning Commission. The application is attached to this report as Exhibit A.
